👎 **Farm workers:** Farms will be around for centuries, but more and more farm workers are being replaced each year by automatic weeders, apple pickers, lettuce thinners, harvest drones, and vineyard pruners.

👎 **Fast-food workers:** Assembly lines and robots have also made their way to the restaurant industry, and are replacing fast-food workers in the task of churning out burgers and fries.

👎 **Restaurant servers:** Self-ordering kiosks have already reduced the need for restaurant servers, but advances in AI and robot technology will reduce dependence on waiters even more.

👎 **Flight attendants**: Robots in restaurants, and robots on flights! Experiments to reduce dependence on flight attendants have made a lot of progress, and its not long before you will see robots prowling the aisles instead of human flight attendants.

👎 **Air-traffic controllers:** AI and automation have helped air-traffic controllers increase their efficiency, but it might also lead to person-less flight towers.

👎 **Pilots:** Auto-pilot features have been a supporting feature for pilots, but don’t be surprised if humans and cargo are soon being shuttled around in pilot-less planes!


👎 **Bill collectors and account agents:** The rise of software and automation has gradually take over the jobs of bill collectors, and account agents, making yet another popular middle-class job obsolete.

👎 **Loan officers: **Bank employees who have the job of green lighting or rejecting loan applications, are among those whose jobs can be automated and are at the greatest risk of technology-driven extinction.

👎** Tax accountants:** Computers and programs like Watson, TurboTax will soon gobble up the jobs of the tax accountants they are currently assisting. ATMs and self-checkout counters have already reduced the need for tellers and cashiers. It’s not too long before you stop seeing job openings for these roles.

👎** Telemarketers:** As early as 2017, the Guardian had predicted that telemarketing had a 99% chance of falling victim to automation. While we are still responding to some human telemarketers, this will soon be a distant memory.

Keys to professional success in 2023

Gender gap in economic participation and opportunity remains the biggest hurdle in women’s participation in future-ready roles. The persistent lack of women in technical roles, and leadership positions has been further impacted by the pandemic. How can women bridge this gap and level the playing field?

### **What is the Gender Gap and why are we talking about it?**
> _The World Economic Forum defines gender gap as “the difference between women and men as reflected in social, political, intellectual, cultural, or economic attainments or attitudes.”_

The global Gender Gap Index measures this disparity in 4 areas: health, education, economics and politics.

In education the gap refers to the lack of access to higher education, while health examines life expectancy and access to health care. In politics, it measures the representation of women in decision-making organizations. In economics, the gender gap is seen in the difference in salaries, and the difference in participation of women in certain roles.

### **According to the last World Economic Forum report, published in July 2022, it will take 132 years to close the gender gap worldwide.**

The pandemic only aggravated the situation by taking away some of the opportunities that had opened up in the previous years. LinkedIn, the [International Labour Organisation](https://www.ilo.org/global/lang--en/index.htm) and [Ipsos](https://www.ipsos.com/en), have all reported that unemployment in women shot up in 2019, while hiring of women in leadership roles showed a sharp decline in 2020.
