Project Bhaskar: A Creative Research Space for Indian Culture and AI

Project Bhaskar is an ambitious initiative by Adaptiv to bring together technology, culture, and community under one collaborative framework. Designed as a creative research space for Indian culture and artificial intelligence, the project explores how emerging technologies can interact with India’s rich knowledge traditions, artistic heritage, and local cultural ecosystems. Rather than treating AI purely as a technical tool, Project Bhaskar is positioning it as a medium for cultural exploration, creative experimentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

At its core, Project Bhaskar is built around three complementary components: the Lab, the Incubator, and the Residency. Together, these elements create a dynamic environment where ideas move from research to experimentation and ultimately into real-world cultural and technological initiatives.

The Vision Behind Project Bhaskar

India has one of the world’s deepest cultural histories and knowledge systems. From ancient literature and philosophy to craft traditions, music, language, and regional practices, these systems offer enormous potential for exploration through modern technologies. Artificial intelligence, in particular, opens new possibilities for understanding, preserving, and reinterpreting cultural knowledge.

Project Bhaskar aims to create a space where technologists, artists, researchers, educators, and cultural practitioners can collaborate. By bringing together people from diverse disciplines, the project encourages new ways of thinking about how technology can engage with culture - not as a replacement, but as a partner in creative and intellectual exploration.

Located in Ajmer and inspired by the region’s cultural and ecological context, the project places strong emphasis on grounding technological innovation within local environments and traditions. Learn more about our story, our reasoning for building this community in Ajmer, and our long-term goals and visions in this unique flipbook.

The Lab: Research and Prototyping

The Lab is the research and experimentation hub of Project Bhaskar. Here, participants explore ideas at the intersection of artificial intelligence and cultural knowledge systems. The Lab focuses on developing research projects and experimental prototypes that respond to India’s diverse cultural landscape.

This work might include building cultural datasets, experimenting with AI-driven creative tools, or exploring new ways to document and interpret heritage materials. Researchers and technologists collaborate with artists and cultural scholars to develop projects that reflect both technical innovation and cultural sensitivity.

Importantly, the Lab emphasises experimentation. Projects are not limited to conventional technological outputs. They may take the form of installations, creative software tools, digital archives, or interdisciplinary studies that expand how technology interacts with culture. Our early projects include an AI film on the story of Ajmer, an app that helps you understand your health through photos of your daily activities and a virtual museum where you can explore the art of Rajasthan.

By rooting research within Ajmer’s culture and ecology, the Lab ensures that its work remains connected to real communities and environments.

The Incubator: From Ideas to Institutions

While the Lab generates ideas and prototypes, the Incubator focuses on transforming promising concepts into tangible initiatives. Through short development cycles, teams refine their projects and work toward building sustainable products, programs, or cultural institutions.

The Incubator supports participants as they move from experimentation to implementation. This process may involve developing digital platforms, launching cultural initiatives, building community-driven tools, or creating new collaborative institutions centred around culture and technology.

The goal is not simply to build technology but to create meaningful structures that can continue growing beyond the project itself. By helping ideas evolve into real-world initiatives, the Incubator ensures that the work emerging from Project Bhaskar has lasting impact.

The Residency: A Rotating Community of Creators

The third pillar of Project Bhaskar is the Residency, which will bring together a rotating community of builders, researchers, artists, and educators. Residents spend time working within the Bhaskar environment, collaborating on projects while contributing their own expertise and perspectives.

Residencies are designed to encourage deep engagement. Participants can conduct research, develop creative work, host workshops, or collaborate with others within the community. By living and working together, residents form a vibrant ecosystem of interdisciplinary exchange.

This structure ensures that Project Bhaskar remains dynamic. Each residency cycle introduces new ideas, skills, and perspectives, allowing the project to evolve continuously.

A Space for Culture, Learning, and Collaboration

Beyond its three core programs, Project Bhaskar also functions as a broader cultural and learning environment. The space includes facilities designed to support exploration and community interaction, including a library, exhibition space, workshop areas, and co-working environments.

These spaces encourage informal interaction between participants and visitors. Researchers may discover inspiration in the library, artists may present experimental works in exhibitions, and technologists may collaborate with cultural scholars during workshops.

In this way, Bhaskar operates not just as a research lab but as a cultural hub where ideas, creativity, and technology intersect.

Looking Toward the Future

As artificial intelligence continues to shape the world, there is growing need to ensure that technological development remains connected to cultural knowledge and human creativity. Project Bhaskar represents one attempt to address this challenge by building a space where tradition and innovation can meet.

By combining research, incubation, and residency programs within a shared environment, this project is creating a platform for experimentation that is both technologically forward-looking and culturally grounded.

Ultimately, Project Bhaskar aims to be more than a research initiative. It will be an evolving community dedicated to exploring how culture and technology can inform one another, opening new pathways for creativity, knowledge, and collaboration in the age of AI.
